Ryan Cenk's Eagle Scout Project

In 2011-12, Ryan Cenk completed his Eagle Scout Project by raising nearly $14,000 to purchase and install 15 teakwood benches and platform materials for the ½-mile trail that nearly encircles the Rose Garden. Fundraisers were followed by work parties he organized and led. Each bench has a nameplate acknowledging the donor (several were purchased by family members of the heroes). The trail is appropriately named “Ryan’s Trail,” is wheelchair-accessible, and offers visitors the chance to rest, meditate, or pray as they reflect on the sacrifice made by the fallen heroes of Flight 93.

Tragically, a second brain tumor took Ryan’s life on April 22, 2017, but his spirit of kindness lives on in the beautiful trail that bears his name and in the hearts and minds of those who loved him.
